Discovering Guadalajara

Guadalajara, Guadalajara tienes el alma más Mexicana (Guadalajara, Guadalajara you have the most Mexican soul…) quote from a verse of a song that the author of vernacular music Pepe Guizar wrote, inspired in that beautiful destination, capital of the state of Jalisco.

Founded almost 500 years ago, Guadalajara is the third most important city in the country. Among green and humid landscapes, one can breathe its patriotic atmosphere, marked by tradition and history.

It is a city that shines because of its architectonic and cultural heritage, proof of this is the hospice “Cabañas” that, in addition to its magnificent neoclassical construction, its interior hosts exhibitions of renowned artists such as the Jalisco native José Clemente Orozco who will express in the inside, among others, the fresco called “El hombre en llamas” (the man on flames), considered by many the masterpiece of this amazing muralist.  In this site diverse national and international exhibitions parade for the delight of all its visitors. Another space of expression is the theatre “Teatro Degollado” that has a wide schedule of musical, dancing, and theatre events. This forum receives thousands of scenic art fans every year since its opening in 1866. Nowadays, it is the headquarters of the Jalisco philharmonic orchestra. Both buildings are considered World heritage sites by UNESCO.

From culture we can pass now to gastronomy because Guadalajara is the venue of several festivals, such as the “Festival de la Cerveza” (beer festival), the biggest in Mexico that in this year will present its 15th edition.  Food, good music, and above all beer will await you in this celebration that honors one of the most beloved drinks in the world. The “Expo Café & Gourmet” is another gastronomical event that you cannot miss since it marks the tendencies about this fascinating beverage. It has the presence of renowned exhibitors, and it offers workshops to know more about coffee and cuisine for tasting and business alike.  There are several brands of coffee beans that participate in the “Premio Sabor Expo Café” for the excellence and quality. This event welcomes around 15,000 visitors every year; you can be one of them.

In Guadalajara there is fun at day and night for all interests and ages, and the perfect occasion to experience it is in the “Las fiestas de Octubre” (October parties), the most important event in all Jalisco. It is a perfect opportunity to live the most popular Mexican traditions that remain captured in the visitors’ memories. In the main venue you can savor typical food such as esquites, pozole, birria, flautas, tortas ahogadas and candies, like cotton candy and gaznate (traditional Mexican sweet). You will also find mechanical games, parades with floats, circus, theatre of town, wrestling, and Palenque where since 1965 the most popular artists of the moment are presented. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy “Las fiestas de Octubre” in your visit through Guadalajara and experience Mexico to the maximum.
